Charmain Steventon – West Harbour Director

“I believe women in sport are powerful catalysts of change.” Board Director, Charmain Steventon

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD) a day of empowerment, celebration and inspiration – it offers an opportunity for us to reflect on progress made, and to celebrate all the women who play an extraordinary role in our Club.

In 2022 and beyond, West Harbour have committed to a focus on increasing engagement with females.

West Harbour are delighted to appoint Charmain Steventon, Director of Womens Rugby.  Charmain is no stranger to West Harbour, having joined the Club as a player in 2001 where she won five premierships in the 8 seasons they competed, and were in 6 consecutive grand finals between 1999 – 2005. Charmain represented the Wallaroos in 15’s and 7’s.

“Women in sport are powerful catalysts of change. Being involved in sport has helped me in my career; it taught me to take risks, reminds me success is never guaranteed, don’t be afraid of change, and tackle every challenge that comes my way. My aim is to inspire the next generation – to raise awareness about the benefits of playing sport and being healthy and developing discipline and resilience.”

We are excited to rebuild our Women’s Sevens Rugby program under the guidance of Head Coach Josh Bray. In addition we re-entering a Women’s XVs team in the Jack Scott Cup competition in 2023.  This will be well supported as we move back into Concord Oval.

Our women’s program provides women with a fun, safe and encouraging opportunity to learn basic skills of rugby, meet new people, get fit and have fun!

Consider joining West Harbour Women’s as an opportunity for ongoing community connection through participation, volunteering or as a supporter.
