West Harbour Pirates Rugby Club have this week appointed Tom Games to the role of Director of Rugby for season 2020.

Games will step into the Board assigned role after a West Harbour career spanning six seasons and over 100 First Grade matches.

“The most exciting thing for me is to be back involved at West Harbour,” he said.

“I’ve played a lot of rugby for the Club and have really strong relationships with a lot of the group, so I jumped at the opportunity to get back onboard.

I have had such a long and happy connection to West Harbour since 2011, so now’s really my time to give back.”

The former First Grade and Club Captain will become a conduit between the Board, Head Coach Mark Gudmunson and the playing group, providing a level of oversight and consistency in all communication within the Club.

Games will also be working directly with Gudmunson to develop the Club’s overall rugby ethos and strategy, and will ensure that these are communicated  to all key stakeholders, from coaches to Colts and members.

“Communication is vital and needs to be seamless across all levels of the Club,” he said.

“My role is to come in and become the cog in the middle to ensure that this happens.

When we get our communication in tune, it’s clear where our focus is for the Club and that’s when we achieve greater success.”

This offseason has been one of progress for West Harbour, with Gudmunson and over three-quarters of the First Grade squad returning for season 2020.

In a season that will also see the Club play the majority of its home fixtures at Drummoyne Oval, Games believes a rejuvenated West Harbour should be aiming for higher honours on this seasons Club Championship table.

“West Harbour has always had such a strong playing group, mainly thanks to such a high level of trust amongst the players and coaches,” he said.

“Seeing all these key personnel commit to the Club is so positive, and shows how much they believe in the direction we are moving in.

“When you can trust the person next to you and believe like that, success will often follow.”
